    Black Gas mask???

    Hello,
I received this Gas mask. I only have one other one which is green, all the others I've seen are green. Why is this one black?

Later M38 are often black, either with green or blue metal parts.
I think black ones are even more common then green ones (M38 masks that is)
The cloth M30 masks are green as far as I know.

I agree with Tom,.... I believe the earlier ones displayed the green canvas/cloth material on the exterior.....Probably as the war progressed, the covering was omitted to increase production.....Along the lines of the British respirators.....Bodes

The masks with the fabric exterior are rubberized canvas, which was the earliest type of M38 mask. This was different from the rubber mask which replaced the canvas type early in the war. I also believe that I have seen more black rubber masks than green ones.
