    Two Fleamarket Finds

    Hi fellow collectors,

A few years ago you could not visit a fleamarket here in Austria without
    finding at least "something".
That means you would find a breadbag or a mess kit or maybe a canteen or from time to time a gas mask canister...
Today these things are all gone , one has to have real luck to find "anything"
Well , today I had a little luck when I bought these two items for a sum that would not even be enough to buy you two beers !
One of the items had a little surprise too.
    Just have a look!

As you can see I got a gas cape bag and a drinking cup in a very strange color.
The gas cape bag was half filled with what I think are gun cleaning wicks.

        to be honest, yes
A lot of these coloured (green and orange) bakelite cups seem to flood ebay germany lately.

I have not verified them, because none of the sellers were prepared to answer the question if there are bakelite manufacturing stamps on them.

So, the quistion ofcourse is, are there ?

          Hi Tom,
I cannot say anything about the light green cup but a few years ago I had a feldflasche(now long gone because the drinking cup itself was missing a fairly large chip!) which was made of the same orange bakelite many butter dosen are made of...it had the typical stampings found on bakelite items and never parted company with the red-enameled.1944-dated canteen!
          Hope that helps

            Stamp

Thank you Tom and Manny ,
I tried to take a pic of the marking , unfortunately I am not so good in taking pictures ...
Here you can hopefully see the marking , F7 and a K.
Never seen one of these before.

            Cheers

                  Colored Cups

I have one of each Green and Orange. I also picked them up in Flea markets in Germany almost 20 years ago. Some of my green ones came with Medical canteens. They are not uncommon, but definately hard to find.

                  Horrido!

Tom, The guys making the fake or (REPRO) cups from black plastic have also made them now in green and orange plastic as well. These are probably the ones that you are seeing on German Ebay. They are even makers marked and dated but are made from plastic so its easy to tell if you inspect them in person but its hard when something is in pictures...

They did actually make these out of bakelite during the war, I have seen green, orange, brown, and white bakelite cups that were wartime produced...

                    Regards,

                    Thomas

I heard about orange copies - and I havn't seen originall orange cup with good background... - so.. dont strust them too much..
but I did see green ones straight from the attic or fleamarket - so I trust them

I was sonday on Ciney. A man had aprox. 4 green en 3 oranges... but no blacks. All were very new and made out of plastic. The also had stamps....

And on ebay germany I saw a yellow (not orange!) one. Seller sayed it was 100% original. Unfortionally you cant see that on a pic.

That's what I figured.... damn repros

Anyway, I thought it was best to stay away from those ebay ones, especially because the seller (Lomax militaria from germany) is selling a lot of fake (or repro) stuff.

                            cup

For what it's worth, I bought an original canteen via the mail from Globe Militaria (long out of business out of business) back in 1978. It had one of these green cups which was broken in the mail . The cup you show looks right to me!

Yes, I think it looks OK to me as well.
I have also seen a black with white flecks BAKELITE cup with all the stamps. Unfortunately it was not for sale, but was REAL nice.
