    Jerry can markings

i have been offered a jerry can from a friend today and it is marked for use with fuel but it isnt stamped with the word "wehrmacht" on the bottom it has all other usual markings kraftstoff etc its dated 1944, there are traces of panzer grey and there is a smell of fuel inside it has been overpainted in blue? is this normal to be stamped in such a way?
what would be the best way to take the blue paint off? i have nitromors paint stripper but i think it may be a bit harsh?
    cheers

To be honest, I haven't got a clue.
All my late war kanisters (and I have quite a few) are marked with Wehrmacht.
The only ones I have not marked with WH are early ones, which are marked Heer.

So I would be interested to see some pictures as you can imagine

btw, strip the paint with thinner, or acetone, in both cases the end result will not be as beautifull as you hope...
I have a ordnance tan MG34 spare barrel container which is overpainted with green. I'm trying to restore the oriignal paint, but nothing seems to work well....

Hi Mat, the lack of the "Wehrmacht" marking is odd? It has not been filled in with filler or anything daft like that has it?

In addition to the info provided by Tom, very early 1936 production cans were totally devoid of any markings.

Nitromors will work just fine. Take your time, work out of doors and follow all the safety instructions and wait until the top layer of modern paint bubbles, then carefully remove the gunky mess, and underneath you should find the wartime paint.

        Cheers, Ade.
