    Mg Ammo Can?

    Hi
I would like to hear your opinions on this one in the left side of the photo.
It is an aluminium tan colored ammo can marked 743/1940 WaA eagle.Has some kind of red colour beneath the tan one, but it is slightly taller in one side than in the other.Has no markings of Patr. Kast 41 für MG as the one on the right.
My question is, was it used for ammo or for carrying accesories for the MG?
    Thanks in advance.
    Ace

Nobody has an idea why this can is different from the standart ones

It is also a standard ammo can, just an earlier model. Both cans were sometimes used to carry accessories for the mg's. If they did carry them they were usually stencilled on the top of the lid with an 'E' or 'P'. The 'P' tin carried two small oil cans, the 'E' tin contained spares etc. for the Mg. Cheers Chris

        info

        Hi!

To tell the truth it is one of the standard types. It is the earlier version (Mod 34 as I remember). The ones containing oil/fat, extra components or med kits are the same, only oil / E on the top or a red cross on white circle on the side were painted on the boxes. About the red primer: the german equipment, boxes were usually painted with red paint as a primer under the normal green/sand etc. paint.

        I hope I could help.
        Best regards
        Tamás

A tan painted can dated 1940 with red oxide primer underneath? I'm confused. I thought ordnance tan came out in 1943? is there any green or grey under the tan but over the red?

                    Hi Steve
That´s right, no green or grey at all, just red primer and tan colour
                    Any opinion will be wellcome
