Just picked up this mess kit (ESB 42) and I want to share with you. The condition is just amazing.

Great example. Congrats! It was probably one of the last made of aluminium in 1942. From 1942 they were made of steel and again in 1944 both of aluminium and steel.

I have described general rule, basing on my long time collecting and observations. You have shown nice exception. Thanks for posting a picture of 1943 alu mess kit. With passing time and more observations we will probably find more exceptions. That is why this hobby is so great and never boring. Happy collecting to all collectors!
