    RG34 markings

    I thought it might be interesting to start a thread on the various markings found on RG34 cleaning kits, both tins and components. I shall kick things off with a unit marked example but as I can't yet post pictures they will be arriving slightly later. Let's see what we have.

    Dont want to rain on your parade but I am sure RG34s were covered in a thread very recently(possibly in the Firearms section?), just in case you get a poor response.

          Adrian, Thank you very much for posting the pictures.

          Does anyone have any idea what the markings on the lid stand for? The full marking is ChdAW but the 'W' is very faint.

            Rg34 Markings

            Peter,

            First of all many thanks for the Rg34 data sheets you sent me for the book project. Most appreciated. Some very interesting markings here. Are these markings on the same can? Please send data sheets on these as well.

            The markings on the side of the can appear to be to a Pioneer regiment. I must say this is about the longest unit stamping I have ever seen on any item!! Some of the markings are a little indistinct please PM me with a note breaking the unit marking down if you don't mind.

            The Ch.d.A.W. is a marking that is very similar to those noted on a number or "Mauser Banner" models or more correctly Gewehr fur Deutsche Reichspost. Law illustrates a rifle stamped Ch.d.A. in a double circle and translates the marking as Chef des Amtes (Chief of Amtes). This is essentially an ambiguous term to impart limited information or confuse allied arms inspectors. This marking may denote DRP usage or perhaps to another civil or paramilitary unit. I would suggest that the kit dates from around 1935. Rg34 marked in this manner are somewhat scarce although I have several noted in my databases.
