    HELP SOUGHT!! Unit marking ident.

Information sought! I just took delivery of an RG34 k98 cleaning kit with a unit marking on the tin. Is there anyone who can decode the following?

    Pi.B.47.R.34.Kl.5.6 m/m

I assume the last part stands for 5.6mm calibre (0.22) although the contents of the tin are for a 7.92mm rifle.

The lid of the tin has no makers mark but is stamped ChdAW on one side of the catch and 10337 on the other. Again, any information would be gratefully received.

    In anticipation, Peter

Hi Peter, I would assume (that means guess ) that Pi.B.47 would stand for "Pioneer Battl.47". The rest of that line would be as you have already thought, the designation of the kit and rifle calibre.

Hope that is of some help?

    Cheers, Ade.

      Adrian,

Thank you very much, that would seem to fit the bill.

As you might guess I'm reasonably new to German equipment although I've had an interest in pre 1945 bayonets for many years. I'm still on the lower slopes of the learning curve which is why this group is so helpful. This is my first non WaA marked tin and the lid marking doesn't seem to fit any of the known makers so there are more mysteries to unpick.

All the best and thanks again, Peter

Matt, It's too late now and I'm whacked but I'll do a scan tomorrow. I can't post pictures yet, is there anyone willing to oblige if I e-mail it to them?

            Peter
