    Low quarter canvas shoes..

Hope Manny and many others can help me on these..

    What exactly are they ?
They look like some sportshoes to me..
The inner soles are pressed cardboard, the actual soles are made outoff hard rubber, tough to bend..
Might this be a pair of privat Summer shoes we see so often in the "Afrika" scene worn around those tents etc..
I've many pics where people are wearing low cloth shoes in white, black, maybe brown..
Looks like the makermark says PAT.GE
    Can it be ?

    Jos.

I believe the English name for these is "Plimsolls." You are right, they are athletic shoes. I've seen these in period photos worn as camp shoes. They are good to have if you plan on filling up a pony fur pack, as the soldier's handbook seems to show these were part of the march kit that went into the pack.

As for the rubber being stiff, that's what happens after 60 years. Ask any 60+ yr old!

        Jos,Collect Russia,
you're both right but these shoes are not WH-issue "plimsolls"...these plimsolls,as seen in many pictures, are amongst the rarest items of footwear;I'll post a few pictures of a pair I own and you'll see that even if they're very similar they little have to do with these...no rubber soles to speak of for a start!Jos...you're right..."Afrikaners" used to wear all kind of comfortable shoes when not in action...from plimsolls to sandals!
        Gonna post them soon!
        Manny
P.S.;as incredible as it may seem now they fake "plimsolls" and sportshoes as well!

Well,I'm rather convinced about this pair..,the left shoe has a twisted sole and when I try to bend it in shape it bounces back again..,also,the upper rims of the heelpart of the shoes are curled inwards,it hard to get them in shape again.
They're just some cheap kind of sportshoes,I guess..
          Nevertheless I like them.

I'm curious about your plimsolls,Manny,I never heard of them before..

          Thanks sofar,gentlemen.....

          Jos.
