gym42 steel box - ID needed

I have this "mint" gym42 box, but have no idea what is it for... Do you have any ideas?

Intresting. Looks to be late war as this code shows first in 44 ( usualy can be found on canteen cups ). Guessing it would some sort of special equipment or parts box ( probably for vehicle ).
