Is there a reference on any such badge? I have a few books on the Finnish volunteers and dont recall any info on a badge like this.

Looks a bit like a fantasy badge to me? But I can be wrong of course...

      Kind regards,

Nah, it's the same screw back type as the souvenir pins in blue or black of the period.

            Original and quite rare.

In the land of the blind, the one eyed man is king.

Duct tape can't fix stupid, but it can muffle the sound.

It's an original. The fakes don't show the town where the producer is.

At this point, I'm just a wee bit confused. The picture of this badge in wear seems to be a WWII era picture with awards being worn in the German fashion. On the other hand, Littlejohn on page 243 of Volume 4 of "Foreign Legions of the Third Reich" shows this badge and describes it as being a commemorative piece for veterans of the Finnish Waffen SS battalion. He says the size is 15mm (which I assume is the vertical dimension) and that it is Finnish made. I guess the question becomes, "When these badges was made?"

                    Does anyone have additional information?

                      Hi,

These badges were made in 1943 by the association of Finnish WSS volunteers. The badge that started the discussion is original.

Beautiful piece you got there! I myself started collecting Finnish SS related items and so far I only have a dagger and the commemorative cross with the certificate. This bafge you posted is also on my wish list and hope I'll be able to find it soon enough. Congrats.

Thank you for the information. It makes sense that it would be distributed soon after the battalion's return.
