    RZM52 SS Cap Skull Opininions

Hi guys. This skull has been offered to me in a trade and I can't find another here with this kind of crack flaw in the jaw. What do you all think, does she stand a chance?

This crack is proper for some of these RZM 52 skulls.
      This one is 100% original.

Agree with Kris and Chris - a nice and scarce early Deschler tombak totenkopf.

        Take it in your trade!

It just may be my eyes but is more of a 'scar' than a 'crack'?

You may already know this, but I will clarify just in case.

When a stress crack would occur on a die, (and they sometimes did, as in this case), it would usually leave a ridge or a flaw mark that sticks out because the stamped product comes out in reverse of the way it appears on the die itself.

The confusing part, is learning to tell which ones are correct flaws, and which ones are simply casting ridges that we find on many fakes. The flaws themselves are very similar, but after examining every aspect of a particular piece, then we can know if the piece is correct or not. Luckily, in this case, this flaw is already known to be correct and can be found on many original examples, (although it may show on some, better or worse than others).

                  Hope this helps!

                  Chris

So the crack is in the die leaving some excess on the actual item from the die crack leaving a scar-like result
                    on the chin.?

That is correct. A die crack would usually start very small, leaving the resulting flaw hard to notice, but over time, it will gradually get worse. This example shows a more prominent flaw, indicating that it is a later strike. I believe that this flaw may be somehow related to the original chin flaws that started on the D.&S.M. marked skulls. If you look closely at one of those, you will see where the problem started.
