This is a common shape in Great Britain
It was pretty much used for storage of playing cards, cigarettes or trinkets.
      Original engraving,
As time passes by on silver antiques with engraving the detail style of engraving becomes less complex

      Kind regards Chay

The stamp "835" imprinted on silver is the code for silver items produced in the countries of Belgium, Austria, the Netherlands, Germany and Portugal.

Oh Gaspare, trust me. It's good. Look up the OGF commanding SS-OA West in late 1930s.

I'm kinda of confused by the last comment. Do you mean the engraving on the items changes over time?

Indeed engraving styles change over time I suppose it has something to do with inventing new machinery and cost effective

Your piece is typical of the period !

The same thing applies in the Great Britain as well we love silver and is an easy way to date objects
See here three example of the transition to robot style engraving

            Kind regards Chay

Not a cigarette case or smoking related, but this is another silver piece that is interesting: a sterling silver desk pad holder with stippled SS runes on underside of the top. I created the paper pad from original letterhead. The bottom bears the gift inscription from the Winter Solstice 1937. And on the edge is the silver mark. Do the letters indicate the silversmith? They are the same as the other item I have shown.
