TOTENKOPF-STANDARTE 'OBERBAYERN' PHOTO ALBUM WITH FLAT SILVER CUFF TITLE ON THE COVER.
This album was formally owned by a member of 'SS Sturmbann Dachau/Wachtruppe, SS Totenkopf-Standarte 1 'Oberbayern', or SS Wachsturmbann 1 Dachau. This is probably the finest Totenkopf-Verbande photo album still in existence. An 'Oberbayern' cuff title in flat silver is laid into a recess diagonally on the cover. This 1st. pattern cuffband was introduced about 1936 & worn until September 1938. 14 1/4” X 10”, 22 leaves, approx 99 photos ranging from 1 3/4” X 2 1/4” to 3 1/2” X 5 1/2”, I on shoulder straps for Standarte 1, 9 on skull tabs for 9th Sturm or 9th. Hundertschaft. Mollo's book indicated that III Sturmband comprised 9th-12th. Hundertschaft. It is in excellent condition. Page #1 contains a view of Eickeplatz & the living quarters for the T.V. Page 2 shows the main gate leading into the SS complex with a big eagle & swastika towering over it. The building on the left was used by the Central Construction direction of the W-SS & Police. This same gateway is shown in the big Dachau article in 'After the Battle' bound volume #7, page 20. Another photo in this article also on page 20 shows the outer checkpoint to the SS camp, now under American tenure & taken in December 1948. In the background the main gate can be seen with the big eagle already gone. Another picture in the album shows what I believe is the SS married quarters with a huge eagle & swastika above the dorway. Page 28 of the Dachau article shows this same building without the eagle, taken many years later. Page 3 has among others a shot of 3 members of the unit with very clear sharp shots of their 'Oberbayern' cuff title. Another shot shows members of the unit in their canteen with a big portrait of Hitler on the wall. Another shot shows the unit's complete band & Schellenbaum marching towards a sign over a gateway that reads 'Die neue heimat grust Euch'. Another shot shows the the Schellenbaum proudly leading the unit's band. Another shot shows the entrance to a concerne with sentry box & guard & a big sign that reads 'herzlich willkommen in der neuen Garnison'. Another shot shows a funeral with honor guard & SS runic flag. Another shot shows the unit's honor guard with the SS battalion flag. Another shot taken at the same time shows the rearmost elements of the band followed by an officer on horseback, followed by the color guard party & battalion flag. The flag bearer is wearing the model 1938 SS gorget. Another shot shows the band & Schellenbaum. The last shot shows the unit presenting arms at a funeral. There are no captions in the album-no names of personnal or places.
