I have to ask … Do YOU think that thing looks like an eagle designed for and worn by the SS ?

This is a very old, and very well known reproduction by most collectors today. I believe that these are one of the very first reproductions ever made. I have a relative that has had one since the early 70's and they could even be older than that. I also have one myself, that I bought for $10.00 at a small local show for study. These appear for sale often, but now that most collectors can easily spot them, they are usually for sale as fakes at a low cost. The only convincing part on these fakes is the silver plating that is usually found on them and the polished swastika. Also, the fact that they are so old, gives their finish a naturally aged appearance that looks very nice. Everything else however, looks awful, imo, compared to any original. If you are interested in learning about SS cap eagles, I suggest reading through this forum which has so much info available on this subject.

              Hope this helps!

I asked a few questions in the dagger forum about at a couple of daggers at the local antique shop and was given the cold shoulder. Its a strange hobby. Lots of guys trying to prove who has the bigger dink. The head of the eagle on your example is odd and a giveaway.

Actually I was genuinely interested to hear if the original poster felt it was original ... I find it fascinating the total lack of cross-subject awareness that so many people possess. We owe it to ourselves to study the things we wish to buy.

I recently decided to fulfil a life's ambition and buy a WWII Japanese officers sword so (as well as asking a friend questions) I spend days reading up on the subject until I felt I could tell in-hand whether things were as they should be. I realise that's barely scratching the surface and it takes years to learn to an acceptable standard but I now have the sword and having studied it in much greater detail know what I'm looking at.

As a point of order I've always gone out of my way to help people in this and other forums so this isn't a dink or anything else measuring contest.
