    Hi Wim,
    You are correct, it's a regular SS Offiziersfeldmütze with a cloth visor and conforms with known configurations of this style of cap apart from one significant detail which is why I posted the photos.
    I have my own theory about what's going on here but it would be ridiculed so I'll just keep my mouth shut.

      Indeed. The photo in post # 9 was taken in 1934 or at the very latest 1935. The man on the far left is my grandfather. Center in this picture:
