    Metal TK on cloth cap

Watching a documentary called " inside the SS " . Noticed what could be a Zimmerman on a cloth cap. Was this unusual ?

Not unusual at all. A metal TK on a Heeres-cap you can see frequently.
And you to have very good eyes to make out what maker this was...

It does appear to be a Zimmermann … the eye sockets are very distinctive.

I said "could be " based on studying these things everyday for two plus years. I still know very little in relative terms. I guess it was the Heer cap that threw me off.

The details in the teeth and suture lines would also suggest that it is of Zimmermann manufacture.

I bet an Italian metal skull would look similar too ?

It's a Deschler skull, no doubt.

The point of the thread was not to guess the maker of the TK, more to see how common this configuration was , or whether this guy pimped up his cap.

The rapid expansion of the SS VT after the Polish campaign created some supply issues, hence you will see WSS officers adapting Army officer OS caps by adding metal, as well as cloth skulls, after removing the cockade. During this same time period, some Army M35 DD helmets were redecaled with Pocher runes and party shields.

It was particularly prevalent in Das Reich long after initial supply issues would be a factor suggesting a preference among it's cadre for this flair of appearance.

Some examples of this preference in Das Reich - Horst Gresiak, Hans Schmidt, Alfred Hargesheimer, Karl Mühleck.

Christian Tychsen far left as viewed, Freiherr Hans-Albin von Rietzenstein far right.

SS-Obersturmbannführer Christian Tychsen at Dachau on 20th April 1943 - behind him - Pawelka followed by Worthmann. Worthmann wearing this schiffchen style with metal skull.

                              SS-Oberschütze Ernst Barkmann

Anyway, good eye and nice screen grab.
