SS item - what is it?

Does anyone know what this item was used for? It has a large steel clip with a heavy black leather belt loop that is marked "SS 39/38 RZM". Any information is appreciated.

No its not.
And since they were found some years ago nobody figured out what they are. But not for equipment.

Had one a very long time ago, they just suddenly appeared in a rather great bunch and the "thought" was it was a guiding hook for telephone cable, ah well ...

Def NOT fake markings.Not a drum hanger..its some,sort of
equipment loop.

The drum hangers are a known design and had an eagle similar to the 2nd pattern cap eagle on them.

Marking SS 39/38 RZM only on original SS equipment made of aluminum..
SS mess kits,tent pegs,canteens..
Never on leather pieces ..
