Propaganda postcard SS Galicia

Hello, dear members and administrators of the forum. I ask for help in determining the postcards of the SS division Galicia. I could not find a similar postcard on sale or on the forums. An ultraviolet test was made and I would like to know more about this postcard.

Everything that I managed to learn on my own:



The inscription on the leaflet in the Ukrainian language.

Galician SS go to battle!

With the help of a red and black pencil, someone drew a flame and painted the letter X. Тhese are the colors of the Ukrainian Insurgent Army.

I saw a sealed packet of them come from a archive in Kiev in 96 / 97..A bunch of soldbuchs, photos , Arbietskards and period forms/documents, period money also came out.. The sealed pack had 100 of them in it,,payed $25 for all. Gave a bunch away,,had one framed with other Ukrainian IDs,items,,lost the rest in a flood..

Are they real? I've only seen them discussed a couple times years ago. The thinking was 'why not'.. It shows a no glow on the white a good sign.. They were probably never issued and you will never know 100%,,like many things.. IF it didn't cost you a small fortune keep it and enjoy it...,G.

Hi,

a few comments : first, it seemed that the blue shield may be glowing, second there is no period proof (yet) that those postcards were used for the recruitment of the Galizien division/units (to the contrary of many of the other flyers/posters), and third it is imo very strange to have only the Galizien shield colored, when other propaganda material were or full colored, or printed in black & white only.

I contacted Michael Melnyk to know if he may provide more infos on these postcards.

I'm reposting the pictures for the WAF archives.

I found a photo of this leaflet on Wikipedia, this is the only source that was uploaded in 2007. There are no colored elements on it, except for the blue-yellow coat of arms. It can be seen that someone painted the letter and the color with pencils. It is very interesting to know if she is real and her value. I could not find such a leaflet on sale or on the forums ... Maybe the coat of arms shines because of the special composition of blue paint?

Thanks a lot, Vince! I hope we can learn more about this leaflet. As for the blue shield, I don’t know ... I found some other propaganda posters of Galicia on the Internet, where the emblem is also printed in color ... I hope we can get to the truth!

i found dozen of similar "postcards" on the internet, but no period pictures of its use for now.
Also the Wikipedia upload is listing the source as a "poster"...

The "red" part is a personal add-on quite nicely done.

I asked Mike if he has worked on a listing of the period propaganda paper material, as none is directly included in his two books (but you can find period pictures showing some Galizien posters in use, i posted them in the SS poster topic).

The fact that the blue part of the shield is glowing is not a good start imo.
You rarely see that in period prints.

It is possible that most of those "postcards" may have been printed when Ukrain became independent in August 1991, both for cultural propaganda, and for political agenda against the communism (we all know that Ukrain - like Poland and many other countries - had terrible times during the XXth century).

It could be interesting to do a listing of all the posters, flyers and possible postcards that were made pre-45 for the recruitment of the Galizien division and other police regiments.

I also found a lot of photos of eich postcards and wanted to be upset, but then I noticed that all the photos were united by one ... two small spots of fat or fungus, I reviewed everything that was in the search and concluded that it was all duplicated copies of Wikipedia ... There is not a single clear big extension. And I could not find another postcard anywhere for sale or collection ... I still want to know her story ...

There was a big topic here on the use of the black light.. IF I remember right,,its only good for white..

Checked mine,,it does not have the marks near the bottom right. I tried to do a rubbing and other check. seems its printed on mine. Black & Red were for Banderas guys, not ecaxtly the 14thSS...Maybe those are photos of the same card[?]
Could it be a clever piece made in 92 to deceive? Could be,,,$25. was a lot even in the mid 90s! Mike probably won't like it as it has AHs image, SS, with mention of the 14th,,but lets see.. Thanks Vince..

Hello again to everyone! I managed to find the same postcard on sale as mine! On it, too, the dance is drawn in red pencil! I managed to talk a little with the seller, gave me a detailed photo of only the flame. He says that he acquired along with other postcards on the Reich. Unfortunately, he did not respond to my request to enlighten the card and film this. All that is two photos from the auction and one additional photo, he was afraid that I would ask them for reprint This find is very interesting...

I did a small comparative analysis of the leaflets. In my opinion they are the same, but the flames are different. I wonder who painted them and why? He looked around what caught my eye most of all ... It is very interesting to know if these leaflets existed during the war ... If this is a fake, then why waste time painting the flames ... Mysteries at every turn!

In my opinion this is a modern day repro. About 10 - 15 years ago a bunch of such cards and posters started to come out of Ukraine. Whoever made them, had access to original SS Galicia newspapers and other WWII journals. He used logos and pictures from those newspapers to create such cards.

P.S. If you print the card on non-white paper, it will not glow but have that aged yellowed look to it.

Askold, you very well could be correct!.. Got mine in 1997 , 22 yrs ago, 100 for $25.. Sealed pack, and with other items IDs, passes, labor cards etc. that were authentic.

- BUT,,by 97 there were already plenty of skulduggery going on! and for $25 you could by a weeks worth of groceries for the family! The good [weird] old days for hunters in Ukraine!
