This type of skull is accepted as original in the forums, but forums not show solid proofs, it does not appear in the photos of the time, not one dug up in the battlefields, without the documentation that shows a possible manufacturer,etc..... with many red flags.
        "DOUBTFUL ONE"
This type of skull is a question of faith.

Well, I usually avoid commenting on this one variation, but since I was asked, here is my opinion. I have never been a believer in these, even though many collectors like them. My main issue is that for the first several years that I was collecting, I never saw or heard of these at all. Then, a few years ago, it was as if they just started appearing everywhere and soon after, they have now become one of the most commonly encountered skulls of all. This doesn't make any since to me, especially since the materials used and the lack of markings would suggest that these would have to be a very early variation. Another oddity, is the fact that you rarely see two of these that are aged the same color. Several of them appear, imo, to have been artificially aged and the colors vary so much, that I have no idea as to what they are actually made of. Lastly, I'm just not a fan of the overall amount of detail that was put into these. Overall, they appear soft and far less detailed than any of the well known original variations, imo.

Of course, this is my opinion and I can't prove anything here, but for such a common skull, why have these never been shown in any period photographs, nor found groundug or by legit vet purchases over many decades?

Anyway, I'm sure that there will be plenty of opposing opinions here as well, but I must agree with olle in this case. This is my honest opinion.

            Chris

For what it's worth, a picture of a solid eyes skull does in wear exists and was published here early 2018, I saved it for my files, the credits for it go to Giorgio B.. The picture itself is bigger and of a SS Mann with a SS1 collar patch ( rather early period ) but I have reduced it to the topics theme. Best, Seth.

Unfortunately this photo cannot be used to prove that everyone knows that many soldiers and officers is placed under the skull of the red fabric to make it more evil

The skull in that photo appears to be a Zimmermann skull, imo. Many features and characteristics can still be seen in that small photo. I also cannot see that the eyes are for sure, solid. Hard to be sure with such a low quality photo, but it certainly looks like a Zimmermann to me. Just my thoughts,

                    Chris

My thoughts too Chris … possibly missed the secondary stamp the clear the eye and nose sockets.

Agreed, skull looks like a Zimmermann to me too and is not very clear, I can't recall in which topic or context this picture was published, could well be red cloth behind the sockets as Vladislav mentions but I remembered this one. Maybe Giorgio B., if he sees this topic, will be able to clarify the context and be willing to make a better and more detailed picture.
