    When did these first start showing up? The guy trying to sell it to me claims it came from a big collection in Long Beach CA.

            Gary, I think those "Latvian" SS visor caps started to show up in the last 20 years. The one you posted is a classic/ textbook example of these repros. Insignia, name tag, interior etc.

              Back in the Wild Wild West days of early unregulated eBay and ePier these things popped up all the time. I haven't seen any "new" ones lately, so whoever was faking them must have moved (or passed) on.

                Perhaps we are not seeing them as frequently as hitherto because they are already sitting in collections - - - as some collectors most prized item !!

                  Many seemed to turn up stripped of the give-away fake insignia but with (too) obvious outlines of where they had been.
