Trying to be as objective as I can about a piece that I am selling, I think the only issue is not the type of material, but the condition. The wool appears to me to be entirely consistent with wool cap material, which has lost its fuzzy nap after much wear and/or washing. However, on caps where this is the case, the insignia are also usually heavily worn, which this one is not, though it appears to have been period-applied. There are plenty of reasons for a less-worn piece of insignia to be on a more-worn cap, such as it having been replaced because the original insignia became damaged or too worn or the owner having been promoted and upgraded his insignia. That said, because I am the seller, I am sure that it sounds like I am defending it for the purpose of trying to make a sale. So, I will drop the price to what I think the value of the insignia is by itself. I have to wait until tomorrow to do so to meet the 72 hour stand rule.
