The images were terrible... could hardly see it. But as I keep saying, I am neither a collector and nor do I want a collection. I will not be studying this area for years. Some people are happy to own a lovely house without having to know how to build one from the ground up. Just looking for one Allg visor. Be very happy with that. Knowledge is everything - agreed - and if I was to seriously take this up as a hobby/business then a good reference library would be an necessary tool... but I'm not - I don't think - but thanks for the concern and great advice.

This forum is a great thing, with some really decent and helpful people... then there are always the few that ruin it for everybody.

Still that's life... in all walks - good and bad everywhere.

But never been able to work out why there seems to be such a bias of one type of the above in SA!

      Nature or Nuture?

From the image no. 1/2 I do not see a particular yellowing. Of course it was stored inappropriately so there was a crushing that had a lot of influence on both sides as shown by the last image no. 1/4. The interior is very convincing and no sign of a re-sewing of the sweatband. The exterior, given the overall conditions of conservation, is also convincing, even if the available images are really poor, especially about the condition of the band seams . As far as I can currently see, SS skull + Army eagle is a believable and possible period's combination. To make a more detailed discussion, the current owner should pull up the snout of the cap and show very detailed images of its frontal interior. All in all, I like it

        Best regards
Really great and detailed informstion... appreciate your time.

            For Stonemints' comment

I'd be interested in a comment from Stonemint on the textured paper-like sweatband.

            Some other patterned examples.

The type of "textured" sweatband that the SS visor has is fairly common and perfectly acceptable for caps of the period.

The other examples you posted look to be post war manufacture.
