It's nice to deal with reputable people but you still need to spend the time to learn this stuff for yourself. Dealers, even good ones make mistakes and sometimes sell fake items . There is no real crash course , just time spent reading old threads and learning . If your really into the hobby it's not work. If your bent on getting a good deal you could run ads in local papers looking for militaria but then again you'll need to know what your looking at.

We all make mistakes, but those that make a living by reputation must be extremely careful what they peddle otherwise those repeated 'mistakes' will cost them their reputation and their livelihoods. Those that intentionally do it - and it seems to be the majority - should lose their livelihoods...and face the courts!

Mate i am learning also and have recently posted a panzer cap with a eagle i suspected to be fake for review and it was. Recently just picked up my first piece of headgear being a Panzer m40 from a forum member and now friend. I think what the more experienced guys and well respected members are trying to say is rather than slap a heap of threads here looking for authentication spend some time looking and researching for what to look for then draw people's attention to what you suspect if you are unsure. It takes alot of time mate and i only felt comfortable buying my first piece after about 18 months of looking and learning.
If $9000 is to expensive for you then maybe collar tabs and cufftitles is more suited to your budget. Thats where i started and still enjoy it greatly.
I love to know what dealer is trying to sell you this.
Hope this helps mate
Derek.

Your comment might explain why the Kleiderkasse was quickly grabbed,
