Congrats on the find! It is rare that it does not have the screw back for the collar tabs, not sure if the collar has the holes for screw back insignia underneath? My tunic also had snaps for the eagle. Here is a link to the one that I have been restoring:

Note the screw back for tabs and snaps for the eagle. This was for easier cleaning of the white tunic.

All the anxieties and "tudes" seem to come out when these things are revealed . . .

I kind of agree on that for any white tunic of Officer level. Made "Privately", anything is certainly possible - within limits, of course. I've come to the conclusion that some of these fella's didn't expect to wear these things often - and probably didn't give much thought to laundering, let alone having insignia that could be easily removed for that purpose. Certainly there are those that felt it was necessary - but I'm sure there were others who never really expected to wear these often (maybe only on "Parade" occasion?), and why worry about it?

By the way - all that we see and know so far of that white SS tunic is pretty cool. I really don't know all the "tudes" involved - but if it is as genuine as it seems, then good for whomever was wise enough to bring it back into our collecting community - and feel comfortable enough to share. (Must have been nicknamed, "Stubby" - as he certainly had some short arms, compared to the length of his torso)

          gilt

Just trying to learn; why wouldn't the tunic have gold buttons for a general? Is it acceptable for the "g" in the cuff to dip into the border? One shoulder board is Allgemeine and two SB is WSS? Thanks, Tony

Tony - members of the LAH were allowed to wear two SB.
