    Can You Dig It ??

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5oYzw9ArsI4

    Poulin Auctions, Fairfield, Maine.

This macabre relic of WWII was reported by the consignor to have been excavated shortly after the war from a soldier's grave at a concentration camp. It has the correct copper brown piping for a concentration camp officer. The SS eagle is missing but an outline can be seen. The skull & crossbones insignia is still attached to the black band. Officer style chin cord is still attached. Partial sweatband. CONDITION: this hat is in excavated condition w/ great wear & a few holes. Stitching is loose in many places & there are holes in the body of the hat. There are areas of mold & the leather is quite deteriorated. est. $500-1000.

Is it my eyes, or that sweat band looks like new (not worn) besides other mechanical damage and dirt.

              Hi,

i think that no serious collector will be fooled...
Even their estimation imply that this is a fake...
The death head is oxidised, but the rest visor is in overall good condition ? WTF ?

On the same subject, Poulins, I see that they have determined that they cannot ship gravity knives outside of the state of Maine.
I don't what the heck that is about. Silly. Someone at the company hasn't done their homework!!

Forgive me sirs for bringing this thread back to the top, but the visor cap in question has peaked my interest. I have very strong doubts about the nature of the story attached to this piece in the first place. Beyond that, I see it noted that the skull is a reproduction.

However, I wonder if this cap is a Frankenstein's Monster so to speak? Is it a partially original cap perhaps that was indeed ground dug or recovered at some point? But then someone doctored it up with SS insignia and created a tall tale about it in the hopes of scoring a large sale price? Or, is the entire cap a reproduction that someone has taken the time to "age" for the purposes of misleading potential buyers?

I'm just curious as I have seen some uniforms lately of a similar nature. The base tunic is original but extremely salty. To this base is added a combination of salty cufftitles, boards, or other material that seeks to artificially enhance the value of an otherwise low-end plain tunic.

                              Kind Regards,

                              Z
