Lower one is the standard cheap eagle found uncut on the sheet at the Dachau SS-BW

Ian means that the lower eagle is original but very common. A lot of this type were found at the Dachau storage center and brought back as souvenirs.

The SS clothing works at Dachau was rifled by liberating GIs for souvenirs, most insignia were pre-cut and tied in bundles ready to be used or sent out to other clothing depots, there were big sheets of these embroidered sleeve eagles uncut ..

This particular style has always been the cheapest and most common type of SS sleeve eagle on the market and as such is often found sewn to stripped tunics and fake ones. You will no-doubt have seen the rolls of uncut BeVo eagles ... they were machine-woven on a backing tape, the tropical version of those is the next most common and are frequently found with their serial number labels on, indicating they were made by an outside contractor.

A thread showing the SS-BW location at KL-Dachau and a few photos I took when we were there a few years back.

                  Hope this helps, Ian.
