      Translation is roughly-

      8 precision tumblers

      7 individually sprung

      5 safety sliders

      Extra strong bar

      All internal parts verkadmiumiert

      Iron-hard and cadmium plated

2 extra strong lens head bolts

      riveted and verkadmiumiert both sides

      ...........

      Front says "8 Tumbler"

Here's a picture of the key for one like this-

      .

He is just taking time of his woodworking to provide so historical insight on Nazi culture. J

For what its worth, I bought this for next to nothing. Was found during a clean out in old house.

Its possible, there were numerous gates at Dachau, this could be from any one of a hundred locked gates, doors, cupboards, trunks etc etc.

Yeah - for all that's associated, I would believe it's authentic - and pretty cool for what it is.
[and I bet Owen would be proud to wear it to his next punk-rock show]

As we always like to say - if only it could "talk" . . .

You would have to look at period photos of Dachau, they probably had a lot of gates, doors, rooms, places that would accept locks and it very possibly could be from Dachau. I have no reason to doubt the story as logic would dictate we are talking about a lock and not the "Hitler diary's" here, although a big auction house could spin it into something.
