In regards to the history of the Third Reich and the SS in particular anything has to be re-written anyway - due to their final goal to introduce a new religion within the Großdeutsches Reich the historical places such as Auschwitz and Wewelsburg are inseparably connected.

A lock to the gates? One pissy lock to keep prisoners in ? So what did those big bad SS guards out front do? I smell bullsh1t. Maybe a lock to the typhus spray cabinet at best..I believe we can think bigger than this.

The note doesn't say it was cut off the main gate at Dachau, and there was more than one entrance to the camp don't forget. I would accept the lock and accompanying note for what it is.

If you really want to see a pissy little lock to "keep all those prisoners in", here is the real main entrance gate to Dachau....it simply has a small knob and key lock to lock the gate!

Cool lock by the way - and although it may be easy for some to cast doubt upon it . . . if I had personally obtained it this way, and in my heart I was fully convinced of it's authenticity - I wouldn't really care what someone else might say about it. This may very well be one of those little, tiny, special pieces of history that we all want to believe in - and should cherish it for being nothing less than that of which we have been told it is . . .
