    Checkered shirt in use

Hi guys, I tried the search function buth nothing.
I dont know if it passed by here, but a few years ago I saw a soldbuch picture of an SS mann with a checkered shirt. Does someone has a wartime picture with a checkered shirt in use?

    Thanks

There you go, a couple of threads with some info on such shirts. Mostly seen on KM personnel but also used by other branches too. Read the whole threads there are some interesting pictures too

I'm sure there's more stuff buried here on WAF, sometimes a Google search could yield better results than the forum's search engine

Checkered scarves were very popular and pictured quite often, maybe the SS soldier was wearing one of such scarves?
The guy on the left seems is wearing a shirt as the scarf is tucked inside the tunic quite tightly

I don't have any photos to offer but I can tell you two old Heer soldiers I knew well had personal photos of themselves as well as at least two friends wearing a kariertes Hemd (checkered shirt) including one studio photo circa 1943. It caused me to ask one fellow how he would be allowed to wear such a civilian shirt and he replied it was not a big deal and they wore what they wanted to under the tunic.

Here's a portrait photo of a Gebirgsjäger I picked up a few days ago. I've seen a few GBJ pictured wearing checked shirts.

              Regards,
              Michael

France campaign photos by degrell have loads of pics of ss men wearing check items but they're mainly neck scarves.
The m36 and ssvt tunics rubbed like a bitch due to collarless shirts. It was also good luck to take a strip of the often checked table cloth from home as a good luck token/momento of home. It was clearly approved in my opinion by the brass due to the amount of men pictured wearing them.
Once collared shirts became the norm they appear less.

You can see it now and then. Not that unusual.
