    Cap/Sleeve Eagle opinions please?

    Hi, foiks,

I would like your opinions on these 2 eagles, please?
The cap eagle is handsome, but all the backing material has been trimmed
    away down to the edges.
    1. Is it original?
    2. How badly does the trimming hurt the value/desirability?

The sleeve eagle is different from the "Dachau" eagles I have frequently seen offered
for sale, especially in the head and chest area.
    1. Is it original?
    2. Are there any special considerations, such as rarity (or not), desirability, etc?
    3. Any idea of roughly when this type eagle was produced?

Any thoughts and comments are very welcome! I appreciate your time and consideration!

    The first is rubbish . . . .
The second will properly get the thumbs up
    Personally I don't like them

      Thanks very much!!

      Hi, David,

Thanks VERY much! I'm glad I asked!
I agree with you that the sleeve eagle is not one of their most handsome
patterns... I will stick to the more often-found "Dachau" pattern for now.

      Thanks again,
      John

The cap eagle (often found folded to a triangular shape) is contentious and generally considered fake.

The sleeve eagle is a style found by the sheet at the Dachau SS-BW but as it is the cheapest SS sleeve eagle to buy it has frequently turned up on rebadged original or outright fake tunics.

To ME, an eagle that has been cut close (an old stamp collector's term) is worth about half of what an uncut example is worth. But one that has just been trimmed before being sewn on is worth much more.

              Thanks!

RBNO, thanks much for the guideline -- I will keep it in mind. I know people's
tastes in insignia vary, but general trends are well worth knowing.

              Thanks again,
              John
