Nice photo, interesting that the guy is Heer and not W-SS, although not that uncommon for certain Wehrmacht units to wear SS-camo-clothes. Would be interesting to know date, place and unit. The soutache suggest early war, perhaps Russia 1941/ pre-july 1942?

Right. Tough call either way, if his partner is wearing an SS schiffen. Super rare smock in either case.
