Seems the Finnish Volunteer Battalion mostly were issued Zimmermanns on their caps. This is the fourth skull with Finnish provenance I've gotten and they've all been 499:ers! They were commissioned in 1941 so it seems to add up.

So then to material. What do you think? Would this be a alu copper alu sandwich? I can't spot any copper the same way I can on my other cupals. I get zinc feeling on the greys that peaking through and not the hue of gray that aluminium produce.

It is definitely CupAl, (copper/aluminum/copper). The copper has aged to a very dark gray, as do many of these. You may not be able to see the aluminum center, unless it is visible on the outer edge where it was sheared, (or inside the eyes/nose holes). It is a very nice skull.
