    Schalburgkorps Cross

I'm posting this for a friend. Any thoughts on authenticity and value? I'm afraid these are the best photos I can get.

      Adrian.

I've always understood the painted ones like this to be OK, and the enamelled ones to be postwar.

I believe these were intended to be given out as 'commemoratives' after the Schalburg Corps had been disbanded, rather than as awards of the Corps per se.

Thanks Robin, any idea of the 'ballpark' value?

On the few occasions I've seen these crosses advertised for sale, they are usually priced at around £500. It's a while since I've seen one offered.

I found a great article about this cross on the internet just the other day, but I can't remember how I came across it. It was on one of these 'surfing' expeditions. It was written by a Dane who seemed to have had access to original documentation. He put the mockers on the well-repeated story about boxes of these crosses being strewn across the pavement outside the Schalburg HQ when it was 'liberated'.

            Hi Folks,

In the Axis Forum their is a good discussion going on in regards to the Schalburg crosses.

            http://forum.axishistory.com/viewtopic.php?t=74220

My good friend Soren who is also a member of this forum has posted both classes of the Schalburg cross side by side. In my opinion both style classes are pre-war.

I also have my Schalburg cross posted in my web site.

Rene; you posted the link before I had the chance, but it's an interesting discussion!

Maybe I should add my main concern, the original post on the other Forum stated "it never existed" based on rumours, last time I heard such a statement was in the 1980s and early 1990s concerning the "L/12" marked KC, that was very fortunate for me since I managed to get a "L/12" KC, award document, photoalbum etc for a decent price ... all because it was stated in publications at the time they were reproductions.

Thanks for the info everyone. The pictures were sent to me by a friend who saw it on Ebay. He bid £95 GBP which didn't meet the reserve and there were no other bids.

The evidence placed in the other discusion did not stand up. The existance of the painted cross was observed by the existance of a citation. The statement then went on to say that the enameled piece was a reworked painted version. Photos of the two cross's superimposed dismissed this fantersy, plus the measurments and thickness were not the same. Finnaly and most importantly the metal the enameled cross is produced from is not the same as the painted cross, which is zink based. Zink based metal melts at a heat that would not sustain the enamelling process. Thus it is possible that there are two class's or uses of the cross. The enamelled as the cross of the Korp and unawarded. One poster had done a poll of items of this type and only fouind approx 10 examples in Danish collection. The painted cross was given to a broader number including the HIPO were the 4 citations were issuded.

In my opinion I have some doubts concerning originality the award documents, I made a comparison in Photoshop and have a feeling some part(s) of the award documents are made on a Xerox photocopy machine, but await some close-up pictures of the award documents. The latest info is on the link shown above.

The original was painted......like the painted 1944 Kreissieger etc. badges and the painted 1944-45 party badges. Enamelling was not the order of the day at the end of the war, unless for high awards like the DK.

This piece is 100 % original in my opinion, the originals i have seen also have the funky needle.
