I would like to point out something very interesting that Brad Wanek pointed out to me a while ago. If you have ever wondered why all of those ugly flaws appear on the markings of a Zimmermann cap skull, well, here is why. Thanks, Brad!

Hello!
I'll be looking at a group of items that includes an aluminum (?) visor cap skull
marked 499/41 that has "crimped" pins.
The topic of these Zimmermann skulls has been discussed here,
but I don't see front & rear photos of an unquestionably original example.

Can you help me?

As long as the back side matches this one, you should be ok. I haven't seen any real good fakes of this variation.

Was Zimmermann originally allocated the marking M1/12 or did they use another company's dies and simply change the marking to their M1/24 ?

My mistake, in my haste I wrote "M1/24" instead of the 499/41 code that I should have written.

However my question is the same, was Zimmermann originally allocated the marking M1/12 or did they use another company's dies and simply change the marking to 499 ?

Sure it's M1/12 Chris?

Looking at Waffenreichs example, there's a diagonal flaw ruling out a "1" which would make it M1/72 (which of course is Zimmermans number).
