    SS VT boards

Need you SS gurus to tell me about these boards I stumbled up on. No sythetic thread, the "D" is exactly 3.5cm and the piping is alternating silver/black. Outside of the brief description and picture in Angolias SS cloth book my knowledge of these is exhausted.

These are certainly different from any i have seen, normally they are sew in type although some were converted to slip ons but this pair looks like it has been manufactured this way, this type of strap regardless of what the emblem is or lack of emblem are fairly uniform like button holes, type of cloth ect i see no resemblance's here to originals i have seen, i also do not like the field grey underside all the ones i have seen have always been black, sorry just my opinion
        cheers,
        Gary

Hi Garth, I don't want to seem as if I'm ganging up on you, but I also have never seen the VT boards with slip-on like that. The VT boards that I have seen, and there was one I had in hand at the recent SOS, are like Gary's. Is the material on the back of the tongue beige HBT. Sonny

                Hello Garth,
Just to second Sonny's comment, don't mean to pile on...
The button hole stitching does not looks like a "keyhole", even compared to the slip on part, which seems to be formed much better. I think this is one thing to look for on original boards, especially early ones.
That said, I saw these after the sale was over, and I would have bid on them.
                Regards,
                Fred

The buttonholes look worked to resemble worn pieces.

                    Fred,
No problem, mate. If you don't buy a ticket you can't win the lottery. The $36 I paid for these could have been a big winner but they still make a good training aid. The officer belt I won with these is a good one and worth the price of admission.

                      Garth,
Is the embroidery hand done on your examples?
                      cheers,

                        Gary,
Hard to saw. Under a glass the "D" edges lack the absolute precision of a computer controlled sewing machine. Could be done by an older machine or by a very good seamstress. The board assembly is definately machine done. Attached is a close up of the "D".
