Good afternoon everyone, a very close friend of my girlfriends family has recently sadly passed away.. this was found in his possessions and I’d like your help with it if possible, this isn’t my area of collecting so I said I’d post it up and ask for your thoughts, here’s the photos -

Very expensive insigna. Cap is a known version more seen for officers. All good.
Maybe piping removed ?

The insignia are very fine original flatwire

Gents, I’d like to know as much as possible on this item in order for my girlfriends family to make an informed decision... can we determine if early/late war?

Indeed a very nice cap. Insigna themselves worth much more than the cap. The family can get a good amount of money from its sale, it is in great condition.
