This is what happens when everybody tries to pretend they know something without the proper tenure or experience of handling and research. He might have destroyed that piece of history if no one stepped in who did know and have the expertise to answer. Guesstimation is a fools game in this hobby.

      I couldn't put it better myself John . . .
I have had so many arguments about this of late.
Many new comers to this hobby don't even know why the item they have in their collection is original ?
      Regards David

Too many, they want things but don’t want to invest time in learning about them yet love to chime in on authentication threads.

John I agree with you but this is how everyone learns. I think it's just great that we have so many people on the forums even trying to help. I wish the Luftwaffe page had more. Let's not forget that about 5 years ago you and I went back and forth about an SS officer eagle... In the end you were right and it happens to us all!
          Gotta love the support!

A special “thank you” to Journeymontana, Stosshruppe3 and John Pic for your feedback. I greatly appreciate it and I will definitely attempt to acquire this sleeve eagle.

I too believe it is a good eagle. The cloth is a dead giveaway.

And I agree that way too many items are sent to the trash can because of the lack of correct responses on this forum. Notice how many of the "old hands" no longer post or reply. Tired of responding to those too lazy to spend an hour or so researching past posts and too cheap to buy a book. ("Books are filled with mistakes, and if it's on the net it's correct. Right?"), tired of being shouted down by those who know less but are very vocal and perhaps more eloquent and tired of being considered doddering old men trying to justify the repros they purchased in the 80's or 90's.

This is my rant for the day.
