            Yes, a little bit earlier but still rubbish ... it's even shown as a line drawing in the Bender U,O & H of the Waffen-SS volume 1 as an original

              Thanks

              Published in 1971- so this variant most
              have been made sometime before that.

              Where there even produced fake cloth
              insignia back then? - presume 1960s?

                Yes, but fakes were ugly (like the subject piece) and no-where near as dangerous as the modern computer-scanned versions you guys have to contend with today. Trouble is there wasn't the internet and information sharing to the same degree.

                    Its not a variant either . . . Its a fake of another eagle
                    which I personally believe is a bevo eagle but on wool / no

                      From the same period and possibly the same maker , this is another embroidered attempt at what should be a BeVo insignia ;

                        Can you define this statement for me ? I'm not sure about embroidered vs bevo the way you said it.

                          BeVo = thread going in lines through very thin cloth on a weaving machine . Insignia always come out on a strip and are 100% identical .

                          Machine embroidery = thread is stitched through ( normally wool ) cloth with a needle on an industrial sewing machine .

                          Third method = hand embroidery , needle & thread done individually by craftsmen .

                          Hope this helps ..

                            Thankyou, are the machines themselves for bevo and embroidery different , or just the material ?

                              Totally different manufacturing techniques , done by different machines ..
