"K" KZ Kommandant Staff Tab & Others

    Good afternoon gents,

I was fortunate to pick-up this awesome group last week. It comes from the estate of a U.S. Army soldier in the 90th Infantry Division who was at KZ Flossenburg and then the Merkers Salt Mines at the end of the war.

The "K" KZ staff tabs as we know are uber-mega rare, but this is the first I've seen clearly removed from a tunic.

On the NCO runic, I can't for the life of me figure out what could have happened to this tab to cause the soldier to have to resew it??

I'd imagine the two Dachau-produced temp guard tabs were probably taken from the camp's administrative office where these may have been sitting around for issue to those unfortunate enough to pull duty in one of these hell holes.

Interested in hearing any thoughts on one, or the group.

    Thanks in advance.

    vr

I'm not an aficionad of KZ-related items but this lot is spectacular and the "K" tab is impressive. Congratulations!

On the NCO tab from the patern of the runes it is a vt period tab more than likely had a number or unit designater removed like a signal blitz or something like that

So I thought about that as well, but if there was something there once I would have expected the runes to be a little more left of center to accommodate an embroidered cypher as you mention. When you look at the back the wool doesn't look like it has been moved. Wouldn't it have just been easier to a) pluck out the stitching of the cypher as we've seen done on some other tabs, b) just get another tab???

I would really find it hard to believe that an SS troop would be comfortable strolling around in his Dienstrock with a sutured-up Frankenstein tab. This looks more like a field repair due to combat damage possibly.

                      Interesting piece nonetheless.

The nco tab has definately been shortened it should look more like a recatangular parralelogram not a square one

I respect your opinion, but I've handled a s... load of SS runic tabs in almost 40 years of collecting and this does not look shortened (especially when looked at in comparison to the temp KZ guard tab it's sitting above), and it in no way looks square.

I think your point has merit about something being removed, but I don't think this tab was shortened.

                            K tab

Unusual structure to the K tab. Not what I would expect to see, but if you knowvwhere you got it from and your happy its all good.

Definitely not what I was hoping to hear from you and I hope this doesn't start a cascade of band wagon doubters.

Yes though, I'm perfectly happy with it as pics give a different perspective compared to what all of this looked like when I got it.
