    Unidentified recipient of SSHR

    Gentlemen,

I recently acquired an SSHR. Sadly someone tried to remove the recipients surname on the inner band. Luckily the date is intact - 21.6.43. Only 2 or 3 letters of the recipients surname are still visible. Looks like it is Ho___s.

My question - maybe someone has a list (at least partial) of the recipients and could look for the possible man by date and known letters?

I would very much appreciate it.

Can’t make it out man, sorry. I’m sure someone has a suggestion as to how to ascertain the name before attempting to research it- that’s the logical first move for me. Of course, it might be a common name; but in any case if you have a real HR you have a real HR, named or not!!!

Seller stated it is Hoops. Even found a file for the man.
However a good friend of mine found an old thread on another resource regarding the name of the recipient and guys there decided it's Herms. However I was not willing to state it at first just not to direct You guys on the already known names.

            F.P.Nr.11088 Obersturmbannführer Paul Herms

Herms became an Obersturmbannfurher on 20.4.1943 and this SSHR was awarded on 21.6.1943

            Regimentsstab u. Stabskompanie SS-Freiwilligen-Regiment 3 (Gal.)
            2.3.1944 Regimentsstab u. Stabskompanie Freiwilligen-Grenadier-Regiment 31 (14. SS-Division)
            8.9.1944 Regimentsstab u. Stabskompanie Waffen-Grenadier-Regiment 31 (14. SS-Division)

            Hoops became Obersturmbannführer on 20.4.1941

Another good man there found in the Patzwall's book names of recipients starting with H and ending with S. Omitting long names, here was the list:

                Haars
                Haas - 6
                Harms - 4
                Harnys
                Haus
                Hees
                Heins
                Helms
                Hennes
                Hens
                Herms
                Hirtes
                Hoins
                Hoos
                Humps

Don't know if the list is complete in the Patzwall's book (probably not).
