    Camo Hat for Review

I have a SS camo hat that I’d like to get opinions on. A friend of mine picked up this hat in the mid-1980s so I know it’s not recently made.

The visor has a seam down the center which I don’t recall seeing in other examples. I’ve wondered if it was possibly field or tailor made.

Any feedback would be appreciated. SS items are not really my area of collecting.

    Regards, Ben

I would say fake and not tailor made

I saw and had tailor company cap and usually not reversible, abused, built with more materials often already used.
          Imo.

Real fabric but made when ?

Looks like an early reenactor piece rather than made to fool.

Strange thread color, and the visor's seam suggests someone used small, cut up scraps postwar to make a cap.

Weird seam on the visor and yet has painted professionally fitted eyelets ....

Thanks for the feedback. I do appreciate it whether it’s negative or positive. I won’t argue that it’s an odd duck & is possibly fake.

The dealer had told my friend at the time that it came from a “veterans pool” or something like that, but I guess that really doesn’t mean much since you hear all sorts of stories. The dealer usually only had original items, but he’s long since passed away.

If’s it’s original fabric, that’s not completely discouraging news. I got it from my friend in the late 80’s. SS in general has always spooked me due to the fakes, but I’ve always wondered about this piece.

                  Regards, Ben
