    Still questions....

    Hello.
I concur with you on Mike Davis...he is very good.
But this is about the tunic and not about the dealer. That Mr. Davis is one of the best dealers is not authenticating the tunic (right now I see one jacket on Viritual Grenadier listing which is obviously altered...).

    Back to this set:

Its still not clear for me:

Should a Sonderfueher tunic have a blank collar patch ?
Should a Sonderfuehrer tunic have a branch raute ?
Is it common that at a pre-39 cuff title is on a post-42 tunic ?
Does the SS had more rank groups for Sonderfuehrer as those as the one listed by Angolia ?

This are just questions around the tunic....try to eliminate who is selling it and who had owned it before. This doesn't matter (for me)..

As it is a private purchase officer tunic there is quite a bit of freedom. So this tunic with runic collar tabs or a pre-39 cuff title would not bother me.

Bill Shea responded to my query, the relevant portions cut and pasted here:

"This tunic was veteran sourced by Mike Horestsky when he had his little shop in PA. It was vetted by Mike Beaver before I purchased and owned it for a number of years. I sold it to Gary Wilkins who wrote thebook on headgear. He owned it for a bit and then sold it back to me."

I don't recall ever seeing this tunic for sale on he Ruptured Duck and I have been watching pretty closely for a long time.

He doesn’t list everything. Willi Schumacher got many tunics from Bill Shea never listed on his site.

Mike Beaver was great friends with Bill Shea. They had a long time friendly collector relationship together and did many deals, as well as collaborated on books. When Beaver passed away his entire remaining collection went to Bill. So it is entirely possible he had aquired the tunic then or had an agreement regarding the tunic before he passed. Beaver was nice enough to put 3 items aside for me. Plus Bill has many connections so it would not surprise me that the best items have a home already so don't need to be put on the site.
