how to attach Tresse to the ranktab?

    Dear experts,
perhaps you have some advice. I have a sole rank pip that I want to attach to an already holed (used/abused) ranktab (still looking for it). To fit it into my collection I would like to promote the tab to Scharführer. Of course it should be done like it was done. Can anyone tell how it was done by the contemporary tailors? Thanks

Simply straighten the spikes of the rank pip and stick it into the tab hole. Then just bend the spikes against the tab.

Thanks for the pip part Venturefan- I rather thought of the 2nd part of the restauration the Tresse (the silver ribbon)- it always looks like glued but I doubt it was.

The tresse is supposed to be attached to the tab by sewing.

Get a hot glue gun and stick that tress down
Use a good heavy book and set it on top
Like an old cook book belonging to your mother
It show be fine after 24 hours
Post here to show end result

Glue can be messy. If you're gonna use glue, I recommend using hot glue in a gluegun that dries almost instantly in room temperature.

Just take that original tab and throw into the garbage, because when you are done that is what it will be!

It is not that hard to find this rank in orginal, so try to find a nice one that will fit your collection.

Because, as already said, you will most likely just mess up a perfectly fine Uscha tab.

Thanks for all your inputs and warnings- I, too, foremost want to preserve and not mess up artefacts. I just try to find a good solution for my pip. As sewing the Tresse will imply the issue of finding an original thread to sew and of considering the sewing technique, the path to not messing it up is narrow.
Having often seen holed tabs (with the pip extracted)- it is like a restauration. So I´d also expand my search by asking here if someone has such a spoilt tab (in any useable condition- naturally often salty as there was abuse).
