Wonder what lettering the cuffbands have in the first photo with the blk tunics.Last edited by cjam219; 10-23-2017, 05:04 PM.

It always makes me wonder how many of those young lads made it home .... one of the shots is from a famous series from the Island Farm POW camp in Wales.

As I have documented in volume II of my SS-Totenkopfverbände series, these reservists were equipped with old uniforms from stocks held in the SS-VT depots where they were garrisoned.
Uniforms with SS-Deutschland - as well as with SS-Germania - insignia are known to be issued to PV-reservists during that period of time.

POW Camp
Not sure that the reference for the POW image below is correct........ "one of the shots is from a famous series from the Island Farm POW camp in Wales."
Pictured in the front row / far left is Otto Baum - he was at Featherstone Park (POW Camp 18) in Northumberland, rather than Island Farm (POW Camp 198 / Special XI) near Bridgend.

Only the PB units wore these small runes with large letters , and they changed the pattern very early on , seeing these early pattern collar tabs on overcoats may have been a supply problem of not having enough new winter overcoats for the expanding units ? I would imagine winter coats where expensive and so they used old existing stocks of them ?
