Shopping at the MAX Show 2017: Is it Real or Fake???

Just imagine going to the Max Show for the first time and you have a nice chunk of cash in you pocket ready to buy something of interest. It's you first time there and as you walk up and down the isles you become overwhelmed with the amount of items you have to choose from. SS Helmets, uniforms, insignia, and camo items are everywhere. At first it all looks great but then you have to stop yourself and think "But is it real or fake?"

This is my first time attending the MAX Show in over 20 yrs. and I found myself asking the very same questions. Since so many of the forum members are from around the world and most likely will never attend such a show, I thought it would be fun to bring a little bit of the show to you with my photos. I walked up and down the isles with my camera in hand and photographed a lot of SS items which looked liked nice originals and also items which I thought were very questionable. Now we have the opportunity and time to look at each item and discuss it.

I am know expert when it comes to insignia and headgear and most uniforms are easily put together with original insignia. Like many of you I can be easily deceived by what appears to be a good piece at first glance. But with the clock ticking away and no one to turn to for advice, it can become quite stressful. Especially when you see the prices being asked by the seller.

What I propose with this thread is to post several photos at a time for people to have a look. Then I would welcome comments to ascertain whether or not the piece is REAL or FAKE. This way we all can learn as we go along.

I have made a point of not showing any dealers names or faces in the photos. This is simply an exercise of whether or not the item looks good or bad. If it's bad, I would like to see a short explanation as to why it's bad so people can LEARN and avoid getting burned down the road.

OK hear we go with the first item!

Cap looks good! Hard to be 100% without inside shots. Same with the tunic.

The skull looks like an authentic and likely the eagle as well. I'm curious what the asking price was for this set ?

I have only attended one local arms show that had a few booths with militaria. I found it extremely difficult to examine pieces with all the noise and people pushing past.

I think you need to know your stuff and what you are looking for if you are buying at a show, it's a lot harder spur of the moment than comparing pictures at home on the computer.

So far it looks like these two pieces pass inspection.
I have no idea what the asking price was for the cap and tunic, but you know they were going for big bucks otherwise they would have already been scooped up. I took these photos on Saturday. The show had been going on for three days already.

Keep in mind that not everything I'm going to post is going to be good. And this is the whole point of the thread. There were some really nice items at the show and some that were a bit sketchy. This is just an exercise in spotting what's real and what's fake.

You can't tell by your photos at all. Best advice if you don't know what your looking at during the show don't buy it.

If 100% original these tunics would be really expensive!
Any serious seller would know he had to present some kind of proficiency...
