'A friend of mine picked up this ring.
My friend's Father brought it back from the war. '
Forget stories,,,always just the ring..
Chris,,maybe its just banged up a bit,,, [[maybe your right on it!]
i'm really surprised how fast the good comments come out.. Copies are better than ever..
There's not enough of the engraving to say anything about it.. Photo #2 the skull appears to be one piece with the ring. Maybe just a good grind/fit/solder job and toned up nice..
Very evenly toned but a weird color [maybe just my screen].. anyway,,you really want an opinion?
How about some nice big, clear ,well lit photos..
More of the engraving,,behind skull, birds eye view, etc.
It could have a chance of being good,,you just need to show more. better shots.. Good luck..

I was certainly going to mention the color too, but did not get the chance before you mentioned it.
Also, there are no filing marks on either side of the skull, and like Gaspare stated, the skull appears to be one piece with the ring. I too, would like to see better photos, but I do not think that the ones provided were all that bad.
Anyway, here is an original ring with the typical tooling marks on the side of the skull.

Hi again,
There is nothing wrong with what I said:
A friend of mine picked up this ring.
I do not know much about these items because I do not collect them.
I am posting it for him as he would like opinions on authenticity.
My buddy picked up the ring from his Father who brought it back from the war.
I am not trying to deceive anyone, that is what my buddy told me.
Frankly I could care less if the ring is a fake or authentic.
I have no horse in this race.
I do not collect SS items and I know next to nothing about Honor Rings.
The only reason I am posting it is that my buddy is an older gentleman who does not belong to any forums or post much on the internet.
That being said, discount the story 100% because it really doesn't matter.
I will ask my buddy for additional pics.
Since posting this thread, I told him to contact Don Boyle for authentication.
He does not live all that far from Don so that would probably be easier than posting a bunch of photos and trying to get opinions.
I will let you know whether he wants to send me more photos or just contact Don.
Thank you for the replies both positive and negative.
