SS 1942 Coin

Picked up a grouping from a WWII veteran and in an old envelope penned "Taken from SS soldier" some coins with SS (not in lightning bolts but regular letters) and the date 1942 under it. They have a background pattern of intersecting lines. They are dull brass that show age. They are about the size of a penny. Are these SS Kantine tokens or coins? Anyone else encounter these tokens or coins.

pics of the pair of coins, WWII veteran bringbacks and he has a note on the envelope taken from SS pows. I wasnt there at the time so anythnigs possible.

I'm no expert, and I clearly admit I have not seen it all in this collecting field, but I've never come across such an item in my days.
Hope they are original, but my instinct is that they are postwar fantasy, jmho.

Tokens

They appear to be tokens of some kind.
I don't believe the SS would use this style of lettering on such an item......I would expect to see runes.
IMO, there's a good chance the letters are coincidence, and stand for something else, similar to the way people mistake ocean liner's monogramed items, and think the "LAH" is for the Liebstandarte Aldolf Hitler.
They're quite attractive.

+ 1, like Ian said this was my initial thought after seeing the tokens.

Those tokens may have been used by POWs in camps/transit camps or even ocean liners. nothing related to Third Reich SS.

However those tokens may have historical value for POW local museums in Canada, USA, The Netherlands, France or The United Kingdom.
Do you may have other infos about the WWII veteran ?
Maybe he was in duty in one of those POW camps, and we may identify the location and real use of those tokens.

thanks for all the info, after 70 years who knows I guess, the vet wrote on the envelope, taken from SS soldier, they were captured like all the rest......
yes they look like bus or drink tokens, i would hope the SS would use the runes on tokens, that would look cool
