        Polyspot late.
I prefer call in this way than a unnumbered plane

Mike C - Is that an early war planetree pattern that made it onto an M42?

(I apologize in advance - I really struggle ID'ing planetrees).

          Absolutely gorgeous.

            Hi Paintbrush,

This smock is a "no number" plane tree smock. I cannot recall ever seeing another but I imagine that they are out there.

I do believe that a lot of earlier camouflage was used as smocks in the last year of the war but the WAF experts can help here.

            Cheers,

            Mike

It is a midwar version of planetree 5/6 with the numbers removed and small details changed. Only a slight variation from normal 5/6, but a very rare one

An outstanding photo study, Owen, that I am just getting up to speed with.

What is most striking to me in this series of color images of HG personnel being taken prisoner in Tunisia is what sure appears to be a U. S. NCO with a multi-color camo helmet, and on the helmet's front it appears he has painted the insignia of the "Big Red One" in red! This is the same general style of insignia we see this division sporting prominently from D-Day onward, but I have never seen it adopted so early before, and in red.

Do you have any info. to confirm this unit is the 1st Div. taking prisoners and a date? Cannot imagine it would be any other unit.

I always love the little stuff in the background that has nothing to do with the focus of the photo or the story being told.

Early 5/6 in the middle; can't make out the other two.

                            Thanks S
It was a lot of fun putting it together and presenting it.

                            Nice picture!
That looks a sewn repair section on that middle smock from maybe an early zelt section !
