                      It's like a cardboard cut-out that the bullion thread in embroidered over to give the runes their symmetry. You should see it under the bullion thread.

                      I do like the construction on these, but don't see any material under the runes. It may be the photo.

                        The bullion on these runes looks to be very tight and excellent workmanship, made by someone who knows what they are doing. On such SS officer bullion runes, the "Unterlagen" can be hard to see. Ones needs to be careful not to damage the bullion trying to see it. However, I would be very surprised if it is not there,
