    SS command flag eagle

    Hi Guys

this just came in which appears to be a totally genuine command flag eagle in flatwire- interestingly the backing is a green/grey colour rather than the usual cream.

It has been cut from a black cloth background and someone has cut away the back to have a look at the reverse- what do you think it was removed from?

    many thanks

    Patrick

I think it a dyed white eagle for the Reichsautozeug armband. The folding is nothing I have ever seen on any flag and I believe it is too small for any auto size flag or pennant.

you sure it is not just that the white turned, I have seen the uncut ones to where the white turns brown and even is brittle

Thanks Guys, it's a bit of a head scratcher for sure- the backing cloth is the same cheese cloth type stuff you normally find just the colour is different- it certainly isn't just age- it's either the original colour of the cloth or like Bob suggests it has been dyed.

I have a theory it may have actually been worn as a sleeve eagle as whacky as that sounds- we all know they did all kinds of things when it came to insignia application- that would explain the need for the darker ground and also why it has been cut from black wool- my guess panzer tunic sleeve.

I think the theory that its a dyed auto sports eagle could be valid. If I were to make a bet with a six pack of quality beers thats my choice. The base cloth weave pattern is matching. Only one small detail remain and thats the shape of the beak - that differs a wee bit..............

I agree with Bob about a dyed eagle. Not SS.

Good spot Felix, I think you may be right that it is dyed. The only reason I could conceive for doing that would be to wear it??

Also as Jeff mentioned the Reichsautozug came under the SA I think- why are these same eagle found with RZM SS labels attached- were they for fender pennants also?

Its for SS command flags and autosports and Its explained the Angolias SS cloth insignia - as indicated by the Rzm tag for the normal cream coloured ones. There was a history with some SA connection too.
